CHAdeMO V2G webinar #11

Tuesday 15 October: 9:00 - 09:45 CEST

Background

Founded in 1993 in Zaragoza, CIRCE (Centre of Research for Energy Resources and Consumption) has participated in thousands of research projects in the field of sustainability, resource efficiency, energy networks and renewable energies. They have completed two European V2G projects using CHAdeMO in the past few years, addressing specific problems of island decarbonation and smart energy management of buildings: INSULAE and INCIT-EV projects.

In this 11th edition of CHAdeMO’s V2G webinar series, we learn about the set-up, challenges and solutions from their experience in these two different projects to extract learning.

  • As part of the INSULAE project to help decarbonize EU islands’ grid, CIRCE’s team used a 50kW CHAdeMO V2G to test the advanced features of EVSE such as active & reactive power supply and grid balancing for power factor correction, frequency support and voltage regulation on the island of Madeira.
  • The INCIT-EV project module looked at how a 25kW CHAdeMO V2G charger could help regulate the overloaded power grid and increase the share of RES while reducing the power bills. With an example of a building car park in Zaragoza, the team explored business case, V2G efficiency testing and V2V support.

Speakers

Antonio-Miguel Muñoz-Gómez,Leader, Electric Mobility Team, CIRCE received a Master's degree in Research of Industrial Technologies from the UNED, a Bachelor´s degree in Industrial Electronics and Automation Engineering from the University of León and Bachelor´s degree in Systems Computing from the University of Zaragoza. He was awarded for the project “Hydrogen-powered Kart. Formula Zero” and received the award for Excellence in Studies for the Master's Degree.

During his professional career, he has worked as a project manager in engineering and research projects and has extensive experience in the industrial sector as a head of electronics department, participating in several European projects such as AERIAL-CORE, INCIT-EV, NEUTRALPATH, REEFLEX. Since 2019, he is part of the power electronics team of the CIRCE Foundation, where he leads the electric mobility team. He has authored several journal articles and participated in international conferences, and has registered intellectual property with two utility models dedicated to inductive energy harvesting and an EV charger design protection.

Javier Ballestin Fuertes, PhD., Researcher, Electric Mobility Team, CIRCE received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. (with honours) in electronic engineering from the University of Zaragoza, Zaragoza, Spain, in 2019 and 2022, respectively. His PhD thesis focused on the improvement of power electronics devices for the mass deployment of distributed energy resources and electric vehicles in low-voltage distribution grids.

Researcher in the electronic systems group at CIRCE Foundation since 2018, his field of research has focused on the development of signal and power electronics systems for the integration of renewable energy generation, battery energy storage and bidirectional electric vehicle charging, focused on the management and support of distribution grids. This research has been carried out in several EU projects such as PARITY, INSULAE, INCIT-EV, TIGON and SSTAR, where he has published more than 10 journal articles and presented at international conferences.

In the webinar, various types of bi-directional project setting, V2G efficiency, and grid services (voltage regulation with reactive power injection, etc.) were presented with data collected from the projects.

As always, the recording of the webinar is to be made available on the webinar site.
